Souka KATO

I have been trained extensively as an apprentice in a traditional Japanese tea ceremony for years before becoming an accredited instructor in 2014. In 2016 we launched a series of tea ceremony courses and tours in Kyoto’s Murasakino area. The enjoyment of tea is said to create limitless experiences around the world, a belief which your host brings in sharing tea ceremony with every guest. In addition to tea ceremony experiences for travelers to Japan, your host is also an active purveyor of hotel workshops, corporate excursions and other tailored studio experiences.

Tea ceremony experiences are a booming trend in Japan, but this exclusive tour is unlike any you’ve seen before. Set in a private, small-group studio, spend a short while as an apprentice of the in-depth realm of the tea ceremony. On this tour, you’ll be immersed in the historical concepts and extensive culture behind the Japanese tea ceremony. Practicing each element step-by-step, you’ll learn the intricate tools and movements used to brew Japanese tea, as well as the meanings behind it. Your instructor will lead you through each step thoroughly so that by the end you’re prepared to lead a mini-ceremony on your own! Your tour will end with some time to enjoy your freshly-whipped matcha along with traditional Japanese sweets. These are made to a perfect, light sweetness to bring out the full aroma and body of your hand-made tea.
