First stop on this spooky adventure is the ghost-themed “GeGeGe no Kitaro” cafe and shop. Also known as “Kitaro of the Graveyard”, this famous manga about “yōkai” (spirit monsters) has been hugely popular in Japan since the 60s and was also turned into an anime, live action show and various video games. The sweets and character goods at the beginning may be more cutesy than spooky, but don’t be fooled because we’re just getting started! Brave yourself as you enter a Japanese graveyard alongside Mr Kaneko, and visit a family grave - Mr Kaneko’s family grave, to be exact. He will teach you proper etiquette when visiting a grave, including how to clean it, place flowers, and pay your respects. While in the graveyard, sit back and relax (as best you can) as the host, who loves to tell a good story, tells a spooky tale from his own life. After the story it’s time for a snack at a nearby tea room, where you will enjoy delicious matcha green tea and sweet dumplings. The final part of the tour takes you to Jindai-ji Temple to meet a priest and hear their story. Then, you'll finish off the day with a huge bowl of Tokyo’s famous JIndai-ji Soba noodles. This unique tour offers both the scary and the scrumptious, and will no doubt be a day to remember!
