Hello there! For my introduction, what can I say? My name is Eri Ito, and I consider myself a pretty positive person. In fact, I’d say my special ability is taking a negative situation and finding the positive within it. After studying abroad, I realized that what is considered common knowledge in Japan is not necessarily known to the rest of the world, and what is considered “correct” also differs in each country and culture. By spending time outside Japan, I gained a greater appreciation for my country, especially the art of flower arranging, which is my lifelong passion. I hope to promote this time-cherished cultural tradition and give people positive flower arranging experiences.

Find inner peace during this two hour flower arranging experience at Chukoji Temple in Tokyo. With over 500 years of storied history, flower arrangement or “Ikebana” (literally ‘living flowers’) has been passed down from the Muromachi period and was held in high regard by the upper class at the time. Eventually, it was adopted by the common folk as well. Lose yourself in this relaxing tradition through what is described by the host as “moving meditation”. The flowers and vases used in this workshop will be changed to match the season, thus evoking greater sensitivity and enhancing your appreciation of the season. So make sure to take a cue from the seasonal theme and also put your own personal twist into the arrangement. Don’t forget to take your flower arrangement home after the course, but be careful to display them as soon as possible, especially in the hot summer.

  • Gather in a beautiful Japanese style room with your host, Eri Ito.

  • Select your favorite flowers.

  • Learn about ikebana and how to create a beautiful arrangement.

  • The flowers and vases will change depending on the season.

  • You can take your arrangement with you to decorate your home or hotel room.
