Hi I am Shimada. I am from a family owned Japanese confection store that lasts for long years. Japanese confections match perfectly with Japanese bitter matcha. It has so long history and arts in the process of making Japanese confections. By joining this experience, you will gain the knowledge about the Japanese confection and realize its beauty in it. Please make yourself comfortable and enjoy the experience.
WHAT TO EXPECT
Many people flock to Kyoto for a taste of Japan’s best matcha, green tea. But as most people know, the best way to drink matcha is with a pairing of perfectly balanced Japanese sweets. In this experience, your host Mr. Shimada will take you behind the scenes in his long-standing Japanese sweets store, so you can shadow him in a private lesson. Light and sweet, you’ll make three different kind of authentic, Japanese confections. The first is called “ohagi”, a chewy little bite made of sweet rice and red-bean filling. Next, you’ll try your hand at “ohagi”, which is dusted in a nutty-tasting coating of Kinako, soybean flour. While it takes practice, this slightly more advanced treat will test your ability to form a perfect, bite-sized circle. Finally, you’ll try your hand at a seasonal dessert, made in traditional Japanese style. Depending on when you make your visit, the treats you make will change slightly to match the season. So from a range shapes, colors, textures and flavors, prepare to enjoy not only the taste, but the impressive look and feel of authentically handmade Japanese sweets!
